A Journey Through People’s Souls

A feature-length documentary.

The 50 minutes documentary is divided into two themes (the cowbell production process and cante alentejano). However, there is no graphic element that indicates the separation between the two parts, as the aim of the documentary is for them to merge, creating a soundscape that refers to the sounds heard on the Alentejo countryside.

Through a journey across the golden plains of the Alentejo, the documentary reveals its intangible heritage and delves into the traditions and cultural identity of this region. Through an intimate analysis of the process of producing cowbells and cante alentejano, as well as meeting the people who dedicate their lives to these practices, the narrative shows the deep love and passion that the people of Alentejo have for these traditions.

However, this documentary goes far beyond a simple exploration of these artistic and cultural processes, as it plays a vital role in preserving the collective memory of this region. By recounting the stories, experiences and memories of its people, “A Journey Through People’s Soul” becomes a living treasure that eternalizes its traditions and customs, keeping the rich cultural heritage of the Alentejo alive for future generations.
